Present: MRC Members Chair Tom Campbell, Hi Bronson, Matt Klope, Gary Wood, Tom Shaughnessy, Mike Gallion, Don Meehan, Dick Toft; MRC technical advisor Julie Buktenica; MRC recording secretary: Kate Poss; Visitors: Michael Kyte Golder Associate, Bill Attwater, Island County Water Resources Advisory Committee
A quorum was established Chair Tom Campbell called the meeting to order at 4 p.m.
Adoption of meeting agenda and 2/21/01 meeting minutes @ 4:05 p.m.
· Mike Gallion moved and Don seconded approval of the meeting minutes. Motion carried
· Don Meehan moved and Hi Bronson seconded approval of the agenda. Motion carried.
Action Item: Workplan 2001 by Don Meehan at 4:08 p.m.
· Don Meehan moved to approve the 2001 MRC workplan as amended. Hi Bronson seconded the motion, which was carried by all.
· Discussion members voted by a show of hands to extend the once-a-month July and August meetings by one hour. The July 11th and August 1st meetings will run from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
· Look for Don’s update on the revised 2001 Workplan; changes occur under the education heading. A revised copy of the workplan is on file.

· NWSC Gary handed out three scientific papers providing evidence environmentally and economically on the need for Marine Protected Areas
· SRFB grants to San Juan, Jefferson, Clallam and Island county MRCs represent the biggest forage fish study project in the world. 3 other counties to join above-mentioned four counties
Executive Director to oversee management of grant projects by Don Meehan at 5:35 p.m.
· Don Meehan moved and Gary Wood seconded a request to ask the NWSC to increase its administrative grant from $10,000 to $20,000. The motion was carried by all.
· Discussion it was agreed the E.D. could not be a member of the MRC; however members agreed they would amend the MRC guidelines to allow the E.D. to serve as a representative to the NWSC.
Communications by Don Meehan at 5:55 p.m.
· Don asked MRC members to each take one of the eight MRC benchmarks and note how we have progressed so far on them
· Gary added that NWSC has asked its MRC members to write about achieving benchmarks in order to report the results to Congress
New/Unfinished Business at 5:56 p.m.
· April 10 Salmon Their lives and their lessons 7:30 p.m. Whidbey Institute
· Tuesday, March 13 a Shoreline Management meeting in So.Whidbey. Gary Wood will speak then.
The meeting was adjourned at 6 p.m.
The next meeting of the MRC is planned for March 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.
