Janet Kearsley Reviewed projects

Working with the TAG Board a list was prepared and handed out of all the projects proposed to date.

Federal agencies are unable to apply for funding so Julie will work with the Navy and write the application for the Navy to get funding for their Crescent Harbor estuary project. Matt Klope leads this project.

Martha Wallin, who is the contact person for the Navy's program "Partners in Education" is going to help and have middle school do a study of the estuary.

Whether or not funding is received for the estuary project the Seabees have agreed to open up the berm and get the estuary operating.

The newly acquire (County) Iverson Farm on Camano Island is proposed as a project as well.

Gary Wood
Have completed a pre-proposal on Forage Fish (approved at last meeting) that was submitted to UC Davis. We need to wait and see if they want a full proposal in mid August

Working with Julie on getting a professional survey of the forage fish spawning areas.

We should be considering partnering with the Audubon Society as we begin to look at sensitive areas. Then we both need to develop workable management plans that are complementary for the soon to be designated Natural Areas

Gary would like authorization to submit to the SRF Board an expanded Forage Fish project. Unanimously approved.
Don Meehan so moved
Dick Toft 2nd

Janet Kearsley (con't)
There appears to be about 1000 acres at Deer Lagoon. Need to Do a restoration study plan. Some parcels recently sold for $1Mil/parcel so acquisition of this property will not be cheap.

Don Meehan Status of our eel grass survey

We have about 470 survey packets returned which represents about 11% return rate. This level of response is very good and exceeded our expectations.

The results of this survey should give us a good data base and then we must link it with a GIS.

The eel grass RFP is out. It has been sent to three companies and also advertised in the paper. Closing date for response is August 15th.

Jan We need to get back to educating people. Cannot lose sight of how important this is.

Linda Sue We need to get educated on MPAs.

Dick Toft We could use a session covering the exact definition and legal ramifications of establishing an MPA.

Linda Sue We need to work on our project list.

Meeting adjourned at 5:30PM
