Minutes
Trinity Lutheran Church - Freeland, WA.
4pm to 6pm
Present: Mike Gallion (Chair), Linda Sue Schoenharl, Jan Holmes, Rich
Johnson from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Technical Division,
Tom Campbell, John Drinkwin, Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team, Dick Toft,
George Lundgren, Don Meehan, Dan Pentilla, WDFW, Tom Roehl, Lorie Morrison,
Gary Wood, Kathleen Parvin and Janet Kearsley, both from Island County Health.
Excused Matt Klope and Tom Shaughnessy. Absent Jeff Tate, Julie Buktenia.
Call to Order: 4:10 PM.
Welcome/Introductions: Our speaker for today, Dan Penttila from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Marine Resources Division.
Comments From the Public: There were none.
Approval of Minutes: It was decided to approve both the minutes of 3/22/2000 and 4/5/2000 simultaneously. Move by Tom R. Seconded by Dick Toft. Carried. None opposed.
Adopt Agenda: Called "good" by the membership.
Reports: There will be a Salmon Seminar on 4/26/2000
from 4-6pm at the NW Fisheries Science Center Auditorium in Seattle. Mike
will attend. The press release for the Penn Cove Water Festival has been sent
out. Gary reports that the NW Straits Commission administrative commission
has proposed recommendations for Chair and Vice-chair. Committee assignments
are pending also, to be made at the 4/28 NWSC meeting in Port Townsend. Email
to follow.
Gary also states that there will be more money next year to go out to the
MRCs. Also, a reminder that June 1st will be the training session at Skagit
PUD in Mt. Vernon. Email will be sent out re: meeting.
Don passed out the revised budget with the note that there will
be THE SAME $10,000, but not more money from the NWSC this year. Motion to
approve the budget by Tom R, seconded by Tom C. Carried. None opposed. Don
went on to note that the Eelgrass contract is now in the county Attorney's
office and is pending. The RFP needs to be done for video work.
Also, Don handed out the GAPs report and Joan Drinkwin of Puget Sound Water
Quality Action Team handed out informational materials, as well.
Forage Fish Presentation: Speaker Dan Pentilla, Fish Biologist from the Marine Resources Division of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife presented a cogent lecture on the Pacific herring, surf smelt and sand lance. Handouts were available.
